Check Your Filters
Did you know that the most common cause of system failures for HVAC units is improper maintenance of the indoor air filters? Make sure you change them regularly to avoid inefficient operation.
Other common causes for failure include:
Keep your system running smoothly with regular maintenance from a licensed contractor. Proper maintenance by a certified service contractor can prevent many furnace repairs. There’s a good chance you’ve invested thousands in your heating system. Isn’t it worth protecting? You’re more likely to experience unexpected breakdowns, high energy bills, poor performance, and frustration if you don’t do regular maintenance.
A thermostat can be programmable or non-programmable. Often, when a furnace isn’t working properly, it’s the thermostat or how it’s set. By reading your owner’s manual and reviewing the operating instructions, you can avoid paying for a costly or unnecessary service call. Some programmable thermostats need batteries replaced periodically. The problem can be diagnosed by a technician if it’s still malfunctioning.
Overworking the blower is the most common reason for the furnace to trip a circuit breaker. Your blower has to work harder if something’s blocking airflow. Dirty air filters are the most common cause. If your air filter is dirty, your blower has to work harder. As a result, the blower uses more energy and can trip the circuit breaker. Before resetting your circuit breaker, check your filter and replace it. You should call a professional if the problem recurs so they can determine if the problem is caused by the furnace or the circuit breaker. There are other things that can make the blower overwork, like duct leaks, closed or blocked-off air registers, or dirty coils.
Condensate is produced by both air conditioners and high-efficiency furnaces. In order to drain water properly, drain pipes are used. Clogged or cracked drain lines can leak water from furnaces. You can keep drain lines clean by pouring bleach down them. The collector box, heat exchanger, or evaporator drain pan are other possible leak sources. Call a technician to figure out the source of the leak and what you can do about it.
Airy Time Heating & Cooling can help you with any of these common problems or any other HVAC questions you may have.
